Bio
Genre doesn’t mean a whole lot to The Mischief, dolled up in Nashville throwbacks, armed with a shallow background in musicianship and turning up to their gigs with their gear packed in pilfered shopping trolleys, they seek to inspire interest, surprise and confusion. Meeting through an attractive sister and sharing a mutual appreciation for Ricky Gervais and home cooked meals, The Mischief set about playing music that valued craft in its creation and frivolity in its performance. Taking their cues from 60s beat pop, Johnny Cash and Hourly Daily era You Am I, they have carved out their own niche by plying their concoction of punkfuzzcountrypop around Sydney for the last couple of years.

Following on the release of their debut EP We Was Framed last year, The Mischief are set to bombard you with their brand new release Sixpenny Scrapbook featuring lead track Hollow Gold. The seven tracks are captured in all their rambling glory, fashioning the stories into a coherent collage of songs.

It's a song that would make you pick up your pace if you were walking down the street listening to it on your portable music player. Upbeat and catchy.

The sea shanty, shouty vocals are great, along with the mix of traditional instruments, giving it a bit of a Celtic feel. A rollicking number that would be sung by all and sundry present at a gig of theirs - preferably with beverage of choice in hand, being swung wildly in time to the song (or possibly out of time, depending on what time in the set they played it...)

Upbeat and buoyant, the addition of a banjo is more a help than a hindrance.

I don't think I've heard a more abrasive offensive sound in my life. I don't mean that in a good way, either.
